Wolverines Jump to Front of ESA Candidate List
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) announced a new ESA listing settlement in mid-July with the Center for Biological Diversity that includes a listing determination for the contiguous U.S. wolverine population by the end of Fiscal Year 2013. Wolverines were excluded from an initial FWS listing workplan that was the outcome of a previous legal settlement with WildEarth Guardians announced this spring. The 2013 deadline puts wolverines near the front of the FWS’s updated six-year listing workplan. Once the judge has signed the Settlement, the real work begins for FWS offices across the country to see the ambitious workplan through to implementation.
